Sony CyberShot DSC-HX1 Review at DCRP
Sony made waves with it’s 9.1 megapixel, 20x zoom camera at this year’s PMA show. The biggest reason would appear to be the perception that it stacks up fairly well to the more expensive Canon PowerShot SX1 IS (which we compared here), and at least on paper, it does. So what’s real life performance like? The Digital Camera Resource Page has reviewed the HX1 and if just judged on features, the HX1 looks real good. There’s a little matter of image quality, and that seems to disappoint:
As I mentioned, the DSC-HX1’s image quality is disappointing. Like Sony’s other recent point-and-shoot cameras, the HX1 suffers from too much noise reduction. This smudges low contrast details such as grass, hair, trees, sand, and water, and also gives the image as a whole a soft, fuzzy appearance.

HX1 or SX1 IS? So many cameras in this category, does any one camera dominate the others on IQ? And is anyone making large prints with a superzoom? It seems to me that it sort of boils down on the feature set that appeals to you, and that’s what the HX1 wants to deliver.
